Bihar police officials questioning the hotel staff
A 30-year-old man, who was on the run after ruthlessly killing his girlfriend Sayali Shahasane in a hotel room in Vasai last week, was found dead a week later under mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Muzaffarpur, Bihar on Sunday evening (March 5).
The deceased, identified as Sagar Arun Naik, checked in at hotel Aastha in Muzaffarpur on March 5 afternoon. He was a mechanical engineer by profession.
"There were four plastic lock strips tightened around his neck. Prima facie it seems that he has committed suicide," says an officer at Brahmpur police station where an accidental death report was registered on Sunday. The Bihar police have recovered a bundle of plastic lock strips from his bag.
"At the time of filling up the form for check-in at the hotel, he had mentioned 'designer' in his profession. He was supposed to check out on March 6. But when he did not check out, we knocked on the door but we did not get a response. The room was bolted from inside. We also tried calling him on his mobile number but the call was forwarded and we could not connect him. We alerted the local police station and a team reached the spot and recovered the body," says the manager of the hotel, Ranjeet Kumar.

Anil Kumar Gupta, the in-charge of the Brahmpur police station, told mid-day that Naik's body has been recovered and sent for post-mortem.
"The room was locked from inside, so we had to break open the windowpane to unlock the entrance. His body was found at the threshold of the bathroom. Prima facie suggests that he has committed suicide. During the initial probe, we have learnt that he was a murder suspect and absconded from Vasai. Our investigations are underway," says Gupta.

In Vasai, Naik and his girlfriend Shahasane had checked in a hotel The Rooms of Status on February 27 and her partly clothed body was recovered the next day from the hotel room. Her head was smashed in with a plumbing tool after she was strangled by her killer. The prime suspect of the ruthless murder was Naik, who had been absconding for the last one week.
"We have learnt that Bihar Police have recovered Naik's body from a hotel room. He was a prime suspect in a murder case registered at Vasai police station. We are verifying if he is the same person," says DCP Sanjay Kumar Patil attached to Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police.
