Fed up of history-sheeter's threats; Andheri locals grab him, hand him to cops

Fed up of a history-sheeter's threats and crimes, local residents of MIDC in Andheri grabbed him and took him to the police station recently when they found he had raped a woman. The police have arrested him after they assured the woman of her safety and she revealed what happened. The accused, earlier booked for eight offences including two murders, was out on bail.

Pay for the crime

He has allegedly spread terror across the MIDC area by threatening to kill whoever goes against him. On December 18, local residents grabbed the accused, Pruthvi Walmiki alias Ballu, and took him to the police station. They alleged that he had raped a woman after threatening to kill her parents. The police contacted the woman and assured her no one would come to harm and convinced her to tell them what had happened. She then revealed she was raped on December 16.

"On December 16, the woman was at her friend's place when the accused spotted her. While she was leaving her friend's house he got hold of her and told her to go with him or else he would kill her and her parents," said an officer from the MIDC police station. "She knows the accused has a criminal background including murder cases. She begged him to spare her but Ballu dragged her to a secluded place and raped her. She somehow managed to go home," added the officer.

She told her parents what had happened. They told their friends and soon the locality came to know about it. The police said the angry locals grabbed the accused and brought him to the police station.

Another offence lodged

"As per the complaint of the woman we have registered an offence against Ballu under IPC section 506 (criminal intimidation) and 376 (rape) and arrested him. He was produced in court and is currently in police custody" said another police officer. Ballu had recently secured bail in a murder case.
