The arrested accused with Zone XII police officers
Cops busted a notorious inter-state gang and arrested a member from Unjha in Gujarat on Monday. The arrest came after the gang followed a city-based businessman on Western Express Highway and robbed him of Rs 35 lakh six days ago. Zone XII police officers have recovered Rs 11 lakh from the arrested accused, Pankaj Mishra, a Delhi resident. Cops are now on the lookout for the remaining five members of the gang, said a police officer, adding that a number of police forces are looking for the gang.
The complainant, Sandeep Gujjar, 40, had approached police after a few bike-borne men tailed his car, blocked his way, and broke his window to take away a bag full of money to the tune of Rs 35 lakh, six days ago. Looking at the modus operandi, police suspected the Delhi-based gang behind the crime.
"Four teams were formed after the complaint. We scanned more than 100 CCTV cameras to find out where the motorcyclists fled. With the help of informers, we traced Mishra," said DCP Somnath Gharge, Zone XII, adding that the other assailants have also been identified. The gang generally targetted Angadias. They would keep a watch on Angadia workshops and then tail employees for a few days before attempting the robbery, said a police officer.
