Maharashtra crime: The Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have registered a case against an unidentified person for allegedly repeatedly raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Sunday, the PTI reported on Sunday.
According to the news agency, Based on a complaint lodged by the girl's brother, the police on Saturday registered a case under section 376 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.
The assault came to light when the girl, who was visiting her brother at Kopar Khairane in Navi Mumbai, went to a hospital where it was found that she was 34 weeks pregnant, the official told the PTI.
As per the complaint, the teenager, a resident of a village in Siddharthnagar of Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly raped by a man several times sometime before April, he said.

The Navi Mumbai police have transferred the case to Siddharthnagar police station for further probe, the official said.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a Navi Mumbai teen recently accused her stepfather of allegedly raping her over a period of two years. The Police have registered a case against the 35-year-old accused from Vashi, an official had said on Thursday.
According to a report in PTI, the minor, aged 15 years, approached the police and lodged a complaint against her stepfather at the APMC Police Station in Vashi on Wednesday. The complainant alleged that she was raped by her stepfather repeatedly from October 2021 till October 2023.
The police official was quoted in the report as saying, "In her complaint, she said that between October 2021 and October 2023, her stepfather repeatedly raped her, forcing her to engage in unnatural sex. She alleged that he used to beat and kick her and also give her death threats," the police official said.
Reportedly, the girl grew tired of the constant harassment and decided to take a stand. Having mustered her courage, she approached the police, the official added.
Based on her complaint, the police have booked the accused under Sections 376 (2) (N) (repeatedly raping same woman), 377 (Unnatural offences), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police said that they had also booked him under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
