A woman suffering from a mental illness allegedly attacked and killed her 80-year-old mother-in-law at their house in Maharashtra's Nagpur city, police said on Sunday.
The police have arrested Punam Anand Shikharwar (36), a resident of Gudadhe layout, for the killing that took place on Saturday, PTI reported.
Punam was suffering from a mental disorder and was put on medication for the same. The accused had, however, stopped taking medicines in the last few weeks and quarrelled with her family members, he said.
In a fit of rage, the accused suddenly attacked her mother-in-law Taradevi with a sharp weapon and slit her throat. She also stabbed the elderly woman multiple times, the official said.

Residents of the locality alerted the police, who sent the body for post-mortem, he said.
A case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused woman, the official added.
On August 21, a man stabbed and injured a couple over their refusal to dance during a function at a village in Nagpur. The incident took place in Kharsoli village on Sunday night, an official from Hudkeshwar police said.
The accused Dinesh Subhashrao Patil (45) allegedly attacked his neighbour Sukhdeo Uikey (55) and his wife Rekha (50) after they refused to dance during a naming ceremony, he said.
Patil requested Uikey to dance with him, but the latter declined. However, the accused got angry when the victim later started dancing on the host's request, the official said.
Patil allegedly verbally abused Uikey and proceeded to stab the couple with a sharp weapon while they were leaving the function, he said.
Uikey was shifted to a hospital with stab wounds, the official said, adding that a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. (With inputs from PTI)
