Man loses over Rs 1 lakh from 2 cards after call from ‘bank executive’

The Kandivli police have registered a case against an unknown person for engaging a person in talk to get his credit card details, and stealing Rs 1.62 lakh from two of his cards.

According to the complainant, Udaykumar Singh's statement, 52, he has two credit cards from different banks and used one of them for shopping. On March 4 Singh said he received his credit card bill with Rs 14,000 excess charge. He immediately called up his bank's customer care service and informed them about the error.

Later the same day he received a call from a person who claimed to be from the customer service of the bank. The caller identified himself as one of the bank executives and after engaging Singh in talk, he obtained the details of both his credit cards.

After Singh hung up the phone, he received a message informing him that Rs 1.62 lakh was withdrawn by the use of both his cards. Singh then approached the police and registered a complaint. "We have registered the case under section 420 (cheating) of IPC and section 66(k), 66(d) of the IT Act. The investigation is on," said Senior inspector Dinkar Jadhav from Kandivli police station.
