A former runner-up in an international beauty pageant, a sports host and actor, has complained of harassment by her husband to the Khar police. The actor has alleged that her cinematographer-director husband not only harassed her mentally and physically, but siphoned off approximately Rs 70 lakh from her on the pretext of starting business ventures, buying property, etc. However, a month after the complaint, the police are yet to lodge an FIR. The Khar police, who have recorded her statement, say they are still investigating the case.
The actor got married in 2013 after dating for a couple of years. She told the police in her statement, "Many of my husband's relatives including his brother had warned me against marrying him. But I was in love and ignored them. But, after marriage I was subjected to abuse, harassment and physical assault too". She told mid-day, "Before marrying him, I didn't know his past but I found out soon enough. When I travelled to London, he accompanied me but abused me there too. There were instances when he created a scene after getting drunk at parties, and we met with an accident when he drove a car drunk."
After the London episode, she claimed he took money from her on the pretext of buying property or launching a production house. She also claimed that fights between them became frequent and usually ended with physical assault or verbal abuse. She decided to lodge a complaint against him.
