The Kandivli police rescued a kidnapped seven-year-old girl, who is visually and hearing impaired, within two hours of her going missing, and has also arrested the accused.
According to the police, the accused and the victim's mother were in a relationship, and had recently split. The man decided to seek revenge by kidnapping the girl. The accused, identified as Abdul Malik Safikul Alam Shaikh, 40, is a resident of Irani Wadi in Kandivli West. The victim also lives nearby. Shaikh and the vicitm's mother were working with a catering company, where they fell in love.
Speaking with mid-day, Senior Inspector Babasaheb Salunkhe of Kandivli police station said, "On February 24 at 4 pm, Shaikh went to the victim's house, where an argument ensued between the girl's mother and him. He then walked out with the girl, threatening her mother that he would teach her a lesson. The woman immediately informed us and we managed to trace the accused and the girl within two hours." Shaikh has been booked under various sections of the IPC.
