Mumbai crime: A 28-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Friday night, the police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Friday at around 8 pm. The man identified as Akash Singh was fished out of the sea after three hours of rigorous search by the police, fire brigade, and local fishermen's boats.

He was rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Bandra west where he was declared dead before admission, the police said.

Singh was an employee of a private bank and lived with his parents in Parel area of central Mumbai.

According to the Worli Police, the deceased had boarded a taxi from BKC to Parel but asked the driver to take the route through the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. When the taxi reached the Sea Link, Singh, who was talking on his mobile phone, told the driver that his phone had fallen down. The driver parked the taxi mid-way, and Singh got down from the taxi and immediately jumped into the sea.

The shocked driver informed the personnel deployed at the toll plaza, and the information was given to the Mumbai Police, an official said on Saturday.

The police have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are probing the matter further, he said.

According to the primary investigation, Singh was in a relationship that did not work out. The police are in the process of recording the statements of his relatives and friends as part of their investigations.
