A 50-year-old security guard was stabbed to death by an unidentified assailant in Nalasopara while he was on his way to work on Monday morning.
The deceased, identified as Kailash Kumar Pathak, resided in Shankarwar Nagar area of Nalasopara east with wife and daughter.
Pathak worked as a security guard in Vile Parle and used to visit his family in Nalasopara once in a week. On Monday, he left from the house at around 4:30 am and was found murdered at around 5 am.
Some injuries because of sharp weapons were also seen on his chest.

During the investigation it was found out that some miscreants in the area had allegedly threatened an elderly person and snatched his mobile phone and cash. Police suspects that the same group would have tried to rob Pathak.
Pathak's bag and mobile phone were recovered from the spot.
In the preliminary investigation, it is being said that the murder has been done with the intention of robbery. "Pathak's family said he had no enmity with anyone, but we are investigating the matter from all angles," said a police officer.
"The body was sent for autopsy at the civil hospital and a case has been registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown accused," said senior inspector Rajendra Kamble from Tulinj police station.
