The Wadala TT police have arrested a 72-year-old woman for beating her son-in-law to death with a hammer. Investigation has revealed that the deceased was allegedly harassing her daughter but cops said that the accused had an affair with the man 35 years ago, but later they broke up and he married her elder daughter.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Vimal Khanna, 56, and accused Shanti Suresh Pal, 72. Years back Khanna had promised Pal that they would get married, but later he tied the knot with her daughter. Post the wedding, Pal and Khanna did not get along. Eventually due to some problems in their relationship, Pal's daughter started living with her.
A few days ago, Pal and her daughter went to live with Khanna as he was having some health issues and that is when the incident happened. According to a source, the police are investigating the reason behind the murder but they suspect that it has been committed out of grudge over their past relationship.
A police officer told mid-day, "On Tuesday, Khanna's wife called us and said that her husband was found lying in a critical condition and had to be taken to Sion hospital. Investigation revealed that Khanna had been killed with a hammer." Shailesh Pasalwar, senior police inspector of Wadala TT police station, told mid-day, "Pal was angry with Khanna. She has been living at his house for the past four days and killed him during that time. We have recovered the hammer. The court has given us four days custody of Pal."

Khanna lived on rent at the MHADA colony near Wadala's Bhakti Park and Pal lived in Virar East. Before this, Khanna used to live in Bhayandar. He was out of work for the past several months. On Tuesday afternoon, after Khanna's wife went out for some work, an argument broke out between him and Pal. During that time, Pal hit him on the head several times with a hammer.
When Khanna's wife returned home, Pal told her that she was not in the house when the incident happened. They took him to Sion hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. As Khanna's wife is still not clear about who is behind the murder, the police have made police constable Bhushan Bhosle a complainant in the matter.
