Mumbai Crime: Inter-state job con gang busted in Goregaon, 8 arrested

An inter-state job con gang was busted and eight people were arrested from Ram Mandir area in Goregaon on Monday, said police.

The gang, which also included a Nigerian national, made people register on various websites and promised them employment. They conned people of around Rs 50 lakh, said Goregaon police.

The accused were identified as Ramesh Yadav(26), Mohammed Arif Ansari(20), Mohammed Sahil (20), Pradeep Bharti(22), Manjeet Gautam(31), Bipin Gautam(24), Amarchand Gautam(22) and Rapuli Chiku Ochebu Jude(47).

On Monday, during patrolling, Goregaon police spotted two of the accused, Yadava and Ansari, near Ram Mandir area and detained them for questioning as they seemed suspicious.

According to police sources during the search of the accused's house in Ram Mandir area, around 25 passbooks and checkbooks of various bank accounts, 15 credit cards, 8 mobile phones and 15 SIM cards registered under different names were seized. Police then booked the two and started investigating.

"Yadav and Ansari brought other accused from their village to Mumbai by swindling them. They took their PAN, Aadhaar and other related documents and opened bank accounts in different banks. They kept all the bank documents including the passbook, debit cards and checkbook with them. Another gang member whenever duped any person on the pretext of providing employment asked them to deposit the registration amount in these accounts," said a police officer.

Probe into the bank details revealed the accused cheated over Rs 50 lakh from people. Police have traced 6 victims so far.

We have arrested them for cheating and forgery. The accused were produced before court and remanded to police custody till February 4.
