Mumbai crime: Mumbai Police on Friday said that it has busted a major drug racket and seized over Rs 300 crore worth drugs. The police said that it was also successful in nabbing as many as 12 suspects allegedly involved in the racket.
According to the police, On August 8, Ashok Jadhav, a police official from Sakinaka Police had received information regarding suspects dealing in mephedrone (MD or Meow Meow) in the jurisdiction of Sakinaka Police. A team of police police officials then formed a team and nabbed a suspect who was identified as Anwer Afsar, 42.
"10 grams of MD was seized from Anwer and a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered against him ," an official said.
The police said, upon Anwer's interrogations, the team investigating the matter found that he had been procuring the drugs from three people identified as Javed Khan, 27, Iqbal Ali, 30 and Asif Shaikh, 30. The same day all three suspects were nabbed and 10 grams of MD was also recovered from them.

In their interrogations, the team of police officials from Sakinaka Police found that they had been procuring the drugs from one Sunder Shaktiwel, 44 from Dharavi and others identified as Hasan Shaikh, 43 and Abdul Sattar, 32. Like the previous seizures, 10 grams of MD was also seized from the trio.
The police further investigated the matter and in the interrogations of Hasan, it learnt that Arif Shaikh, 42, had been also involved in the drug business and he had procured the drugs from him, the police said.
The official added, "Upon further investigating about Arif Shaikh, it was found that he was in Hyderabad. A team of officials reached Hyderabad and nabbed him. 110 grams of MD was recovered from him. The police also found 7 live cartridges on him and Rs 4 lakh cash."
The police said, Arif Shaikh's interrogations revealed that he had been procuring the drugs from one Nasir Shaikh alias Chacha, 54 from J.J Marg area in south Mumbai. The team of police officials nabbed him and seized 1 kilo and 240 grams of MD drugs. His interrogations revealed that he had been buying the drugs from one Rehan Ansari from Shilphata area of Thane in Maharashtra. The police nabbed Rehan and recovered 15 kilo MD drugs.
"Rehan reveled that one Zeeshan Shaikh, 34 from Nashik was allegedly involved in major supply of MD. The team began investigating the matter further and learnt that he had a unit set up to produce MD drugs. The police officials raided his unit and seized around 133 kilo MD drugs valuing around Rs 267 crore in the international market. Zeeshan was also placed under arrest in the matter," the official said.
The police said, in the matter, the Sakinaka police team have seized a total of 151 kilo and 305 grams of drugs valuing over Rs 300 crore in the international market.
