Malvani police at the spot
The Malvani police on Wednesday identified the 35-year-old man, whose body was found in an open ground near Kharodi chapel on Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as Ashok Yadav. He resided in the same locality and was in the fabrication business
The victim's throat was slit with a sharp knife and the body was found under a bench near the boundary wall of the ground. Some boys playing cricket in the ground noticed the body and informed the morning walkers, who alerted the police.
Ashok was missing since Monday night. His brother-in-law, who resided in the neighbouring house, tried to contact him but his phone was switched off. He started searching for him on Tuesday morning and locals informed him that an unknown person's body has been found in the ground. He reached the spot and identified the body.

During the lockdown, Ashok had gone to his native village along with his wife and three children. However, he returned to Mumbai two months back and was staying alone since then.
"He was addicted to alcohol. Once he was attacked by an unknown person and was robbed of phone and cash when he was in an inebriated state," said an officer from Malvani police station.
The police officials also recovered an empty wine bottle from the incident spot.
The reason behind the murder is not known yet. During the investigation, it was found out that some people from the same locality, who were known to him, have been missing and police suspect they could be behind the incident.
The Crime Branch Unit XI detained one person identified as Raj Chavan. "We have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against unknown accused and the investigation is underway. We are checking the CCTV footage from nearby areas," said an officer from Malvani police station.
