Mumbai Crime: 'Shopper' takes off with gold pendants worth Rs 2.5 lakh in Charkop

In a daring theft, a person entered a jewellery shop in Charkop at around 2 pm on Thursday and took off with a box of gold pendants worth Rs 2.5 lakh, on the pretext of buying one. The incident has been captured in the CCTV installed in the shop.

The owner, Chetan Roshanraj Khicha, 37, was alone in Padmavati Jewellery store situated in Bharat Bhushan Building at the time. The accused asked to see some gold pendants for a mangalsutra. Khicha showed him some placed in a box.

After a while the accused asked to see some more designs. The police said when Khicha turned to show them to him, the accused took the box and fled. The box contained 18 pendants costing around R2.5 lakh. Khicha chased the accused but he managed to escape with his accomplice who was waiting on a bike nearby.

"The accused is between 25 and 35 years of age. On the complaint of the shop owner, we have registered the case under Section 380 (theft) and 34 (common intention) of IPC and begun the investigation. We have circulated the CCTV video and captured images to other police stations," said an official from the Charkop police station.
