Mumbai Crime: Smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 4.75 crore seized at Nhava Sheva Port

Around 21,60,000 smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 4,75,20,000 were seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers from Nhava Sheva Port on Sunday.

The ‘Gudang Garam' cigarettes were hidden behind a declared cargo of wallets, said DRI officers.

Investigation revealed that the aforesaid consignment was imported using Importer Exporter Code (IEC) which has been obtained by mis-using KYC documents.

This was the fifth seizure made by DRI Mumbai in a series of tobacco seizures in the last 2 months. No arrest has been made so far. Further investigation is underway.
