The Borivli Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested two thieves who had allegedly stolen NRI's bag from Borivli railway station's waiting room and escaped to West Bengal, the police said.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohammad Arshad Azad and Mohammad Islam Idrisi, the police said.
The GRP officials arrested the duo from West Bengal with the help of CCTV and recovered the stolen bag on Sunday, an official said.
During the interrogation, the police learnt that the duo are a native of West Bengal and had come to Mumbai in the search of a job about a month ago. But, they did not find any permanent job. They worked as laborers for a couple of weeks in the city but their employer had not paid them any salary, sources said.
Both of them wanted to return back to their native place but they were unhappy with going empty handed. They decided to steal something and when they were at Borivli railway station, they saw the complainant who was sitting in the waiting room and decided to take his bag, said an officer from Borivli GRP.

The complainant, Balgovind Sharma, 60 who lives in America and is an NRI. He had come to India after around 30 years to meet friends from IIT Bombay in Powai, sources added.

He reached Borivli railway station in a train from Ahmedabad on January 6 at around 7:30 am. His friends had decided to meet around afternoon, so he decided to wait in the station waiting room. Tired of the journey, he fell asleep while sitting and woke up from sleep at around 9 am. He then tried to call his friend on his mobile phone, but due to a network problem in the waiting room, he came out of the waiting room to make a call. When he went back, he saw the bag missing. He rushed to the GRP office and registered a complaint, said an official.
Under the supervision of Senior Inspector Anil Kadam a team was formed to detect the case.
"We checked the CCTV footage of the waiting room as well as on the platform and traced the accused using technical analysis. They were nabbed from West Bengal and the team also managed to recover the stolen bag," the official added.
The bag contained valuables worth about Rs. 55 thousand including a laptop, mobile phone, passport, house keys and some clothes. The duo were booked for theft and were produced before the court on Monday. They were remanded to police custody, said another officer.
