The Kurar police have arrested two habitual robbers, Moin Qureshi (24) and Sohail Qureshi (19), for allegedly stealing a gold chain on a stolen motorbike. To avoid getting apprehended, the duo would change the colour of the motorbike in a garage in Kurla and mislead the authorities by attaching bogus number plates.
The complainant, who lives in Malad East, said that on May 9, he parked his motorbike in Kurargaon. When he returned, he discovered the motorbike stolen and reported the theft to the Kurar police station.
The Kurar police have filed a case against an unknown person and began a probe into the case. The investigation was launched by Senior Inspector Shashikant Jagdale and his team, which included Deputy Inspector Avinash Nalavde, Hawale, Jadhav, Tambe, Mandve, Vedante, and Pagare.
The police analysed CCTV footage from the Western Expressway between Kurar and Santacruz, as well as the Ghatkopar region, to obtain critical information. Based on this information, the police set up a trap at Shivajinagar, arresting Moin and Sohail and recovering the stolen motorbike involved in the gold chain crime.

Moin, a notorious criminal, was released from jail on May 5. Immediately after his release, he stole a motorcycle from Kurar, changed its colour, and attached a stolen number plate. Investigation revealed that Moin operated the motorcycle while Sohail did the snatching. Moin has multiple theft cases registered against him in Deonar, Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Kherwadi, Nerul, Sanpada, Navghar, Daighar, and Bandra. Sohail also has a theft case registered against him in Bandra police station. Both were arrested, produced in court, and remanded in police custody.
Modus Operandi
After stealing the motorcycle, Moin and Sohail would take it to a garage in Kurla to change its colour. They would then affix a fake number plate to avoid detection by the police. Early in the morning, they would use the modified motorcycle to commit crimes. After the theft, they would speed away at 100 km/h to avoid being captured on CCTV.
