Mumbai: Mulund police detain two minors in 16-year-old boy's murder case

The Mulund police has taken two minors into custody for the alleged killing of a 16-year-old boy by stabbing him with a knife. Police has filed a murder case and are currently investigating.

The victim, identified as Rakesh Manoj Shukla, aged 16, was employed as a delivery boy with a private firm, according to police. The incident occurred on Monday evening near Ambedkar crossroad in Mulund West.

A police officer from Mulund police station said, "Following a heated argument, the two minors stabbed Shukla in the stomach, causing severe injuries. Shukla was rushed to Agarwal Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries."

Both minors involved in the incident have been detained by the Mulund police, who are investigating the matter.

The motive behind the murder remains unclear, with conflicting statements from the minors. While they initially claimed to have asked Shukla for the time, alleging an argument ensued after he provided a wrong answer, the police continue to interrogate the suspects to ascertain the true cause of the fatal altercation.

Late at night, the Mulund police registered a murder case, invoking the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 10 has apprehended an accused who had allegedly escaped from the custody of the Sakinaka police.

Identified as Shagun Yadav (20), she was arrested by Sakinaka police for her involvement in a phone robbery, senior police inspector Deepak Sawant said. However, on February 1 she fled from the custody, he said.

The police, in their pursuit, found out that Yadav refrained from using any phone after her escape. To trace her whereabouts, the Crime Branch conducted inquiries with her relatives and examined CCTV footage from various railway stations.

After scrutinizing approximately 60 CCTV recordings from stations such as Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar, and others, the investigators successfully located Yadav near Dadar Railway Station.

"We then checked the nearby areas and found her near Tata Hospital in Parel and detained her and handed over to the Sakinaka police for further investigation," an official said.

The accused faces charges under sections 392 (robbery), 34 (common intention), and 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person in his or her lawful apprehension).
