The Malwani Police arrested a 36-year-old Nigerian national with Mephedrone (MD) drug worth Rs 1.12 crore on Wednesday from Lagoon Road near Marve crossroad.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Victor Obgbonna Chukwuneye, had come to India on a business visa in 2016, but was arrested by the Nalasopara police in a drugs case last year.
"He recently got out from Arthur Road jail on bail, and was caught again with a huge quantity of drugs," the police official said.
According to officials, after Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey's orders to all police stations across the city to conduct a drive against drug peddlers, the law enforcement agencies have been keeping strict vigilance on the peddlers in the jurisdiction of Malwani police.

Acting on a tip-off, Senior Inspector Shekhar Bhalerao, Assistant Police Inspector Hasan Mulani along with his team laid a trap and intercepted Chukwuneye. Upon searching him, the team found 750 gms of MD. He was arrested for possession of drugs under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The investigation has revealed that Chukwuneye had been residing in Nalasopara.
The police are now finding out the sources from where Chukwuneye procured drugs and to whom it was to be sold.
"We are keeping a strict watch and trying to curb the drug abuse as much as possible," said DCP Vishal Thakur (Zone 11). More than 25 peddlers have been arrested in a year by the Malwani Police, he added. "Following the orders to arrest drug peddlers in the city, on an average, we have been registering four to five cases of drug possession and making arrests."
