A special court in Mumbai sentenced two drug peddlers for five years of rigorous imprisonment for trafficking mephedrone (MD) which is an narcotic psychotropic substances. The police said among the two accused who were sentenced the imprisonment includes a Nigerian national.
In first case, the Azad Maiden unit of Anti Narcotic Cell of Mumbai crime branch had arrested Vincent Koman in 2018, with possession of 12 grams of mephedrone worth Rs 84,000. A case was registered against him under section of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act. Investigating the case and gathering all the evidence and related technical details an chargesheet was filed in the court.
Examining all the witnesses and other evidence in the case. The special court recently announced him five years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 5000 fine.
Similarly in the second case, the Worli unit of Anti Narcotic Cell of Mumbai crime branch, in January 2020 arrested two people including a woman and seized 129 grams of mephedrone. The arrested accused include Saba Khan and Ehtesham Ansari alias Sham. "After gathering evidence and technical details a chargesheet was file in the court. After examining the evidence and witnesses recently the special court judge Amit Kharkar announced five year rigorous imprisonment to Ehtesham Ansari," said an police officer.

The special court found the two accused guilty under section of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sentenced the accused to five years of rigorous imprisonment, where the foreign national was also fined with Rs 5,000.
Meanwhile, Anti Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch, Mumbai seized three types of drugs and arrested seven drug peddlers, including three accused of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Gujarat, reports say. As per the reports, 5.735 kg Mephedrone (worth Rs 11.46 crore) were seized from Santacruz and Versova (Andheri), 500 grams of Heroin (worth Rs 2 crore) were seized from Kurla East and Bandra East area, and 3 kg Charas (worth Rs 1.20 crore) were seized from Dahisar check naka area. seizes drugs worth Rs 15 crore.
