The Dindoshi Police have booked a husband and wife duo for cheating and forgery after she ploy's husband's death in order to claim the insurance worth Rs. 50 lakh. However her insurance claim for husband dropped dead when the insurance firm found out the truth during the verification.
In January this year, Prakash Mane, 36 had taken an insurance policy with covering death benefits of Rs. 25 lakh along with additional accidental benefits of Rs. 25 lakh with his wife (name withheld) as his nominee, the police said.
According to the police, Barely three months later his wife informed the insurance firm that her husband had died in a tragic accident on March 6 and claimed insurance 10 days later. To support her claims she attached copies of husband's death certificate, inquest and spot panchanama, case details, autopsy report, a certificate given by the police along with copy of her and her brother- in-law's statement to the police.

The insurance firm's claims department got in touch with the concerned departments to verify the claim documents those were attached by Mane's wife. They had written a letter to the concerned departments along with the documents, however the got a reply back saying that the documents attached by the woman were bogus, the police said.
The company officials recently filed a written complaint to the Dindoshi Police since their office is located in their jurisdiction, an official said.
After going through the documents, the Dindoshi Police on Friday booked both the husband wife duo. They have been booked for criminal conspiracy (120-B) cheating (420), forgery (465), forgery for purpose of cheating (468), using as genuine a forged document (471) and punishment for attempting to commit offences (511) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), he added.
