Alerting people about fake online job racket that dupes unemployed youths using a popular beverage company's name, the Mumbai Police on Thursday issued an advisory asking people to be aware of fraudsters, who randomly send emails offering placement in the firm using its logo.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Mumbai resident Ayub Syed recently deposited money into a bank account after he received an email from the racket stating that he was one of the few selected for a job with the firm. "They informed me that I have to undergo training in Delhi and would soon be receiving flight tickets. To complete the process, I was asked to deposit a refundable amount of Rs 8,730," Syed said.

However, after depositing the money Syed did not receive any tickets. Post this, he contacted the senders of the email, but in vain. He then approached the police, who tracked the money and subsequently had it frozen.

Police officials said similar job rackets have become active and duping unemployed youths.

Deputy police commissioner Rashmi Karandikar said that before responding to any online job offer, people must first visit the official website of the company. "No company asks for money to hire people. If anyone comes across a similar fraud, they should get in touch with the police," she said.

Furthermore, she said that cybercrimes should be reported within the first two hours so that the illegitimate transactions can be frozen.
