A Shivaji Park-based restaurant has recently complained to the Mumbai police Cyber Cell after a few of their regular customers were cheated while ordering food.

The customers dialled a phone number they found for the restaurant, Oven Fresh, on a search engine and were asked to make advanced payments for the food, after which the fraudsters managed to debit their bank accounts of large sums of money.

Worli resident Priti Gada, who was one of those cheated, said, "On New Year's Eve I called on a number I found on google for the restaurant to order a cake in my office. The person who answered asked for advance payment and said I would have to pay online I give my credit card details to the person. In the next few moments I received three different OTPs and soon my account was debited of Rs 1.70 lakh."

Another Matunga-based resident who did not want to be named, said, "I was also cheated with the same modus operandi and the fraudsters looted Rs 52,000 from me."

Oven Fresh manager Sachin More said, "We complained to the Cyber Cell after a number of our customers were cheated. We appeal to people to never share OTPs and be alert while giving online orders."

Inspector Suyog Amritkar of the Cyber Cell of South Mumbai said, "We received the complaint from the restaurant and have registered an FIR at Matunga and nearby police stations. We are investigating the matter. So far we haven't traced the accused."
