A 40-year-old autorickshaw driver has been apprehended by police for the alleged murder of his estranged live-in partner in Kalyan town, located in Thane district.
The victim, identified as Rasika Kolambkar, aged 36, had been in a live-in relationship with the accused, Vijay Jadhav, for approximately four to five years, stated a PTI report. However, over the past couple of years, their relationship had deteriorated due to various issues, prompting them to live separately.
Jadhav, who works as an autorickshaw driver, had been persistently urging Kolambkar to return and resume living with him. Unfortunately, his appeals went unanswered as Kolambkar refused to reconcile.
On Friday morning at around 10 am, Jadhav made his way to the chawl (an old tenement) in Kalyan where Kolambkar resided. There, he carried out a brutal attack on her using a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. Tragically, the sustained injuries proved fatal, and Kolambkar succumbed to her wounds on the spot.

Earlier this year, Naya Nagar Police arrested a 56-year-old man from Mira Road for killing his 32-year-old live-in partner. The woman was murdered three days before the accused's arrest on June 8. The murder's gruesome details soon after his arrest hit the headlines.
The accused identified as Manoj Sahani killed his partner Saraswati Vaidya and cut her body into pieces. The couple found the pieces of her body on the floor of one of the rooms in their apartment.
The police said that Manoj and Saraswati met at the rationing office where the accused was employed and began their relationship since then. Reportedly, the woman was an orphan. The police had earlier told mid-day that the accused had planned to dispose of the victim's dismembered body just like in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. Reportedly, he had been boiling the victim's dismembered parts in a pressure cooker and had been feeding stray dogs. The accused was arrested the same night from the flat
