The Maharashtra police's Anti-Narcotics Cell apprehended two persons in possession of a substantial quantity of Alprazolam tablets and banned cough syrups worth Rs 8.88 lakh, as per officials on Monday.
On September 18, law enforcement detained a man in the Mira-Bhayander area with 300 bottles of a cough syrup containing codeine phosphate, valued at Rs 1.5 lakh, and 10,800 Alprazolam tablets worth Rs 2.16 lakh, stated ANC's senior police inspector Amar Marathe.
An FIR was registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that he had sourced the banned substances from an individual in Valsad, Gujarat, the official reported.

A police team was dispatched, leading to the arrest of the individual at a shop in Valsad on October 6, he mentioned.
During the search, the police discovered 969 bottles of codeine phosphate-mixed cough syrup valued at Rs 4.84 lakh and 1,930 Alprazolam tablets worth Rs 38,600 in his possession, the official added.
He was also charged under provisions of the NDPS Act, according to the police.
Meanwhile, in Thane, an offence has been registered against two directors and an employee of a private educational institution for allegedly cheating nursing students of Rs 52.21 lakh in Maharashtra's Thane district.
The MFC police in Kalyan town on Saturday registered a FIR under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 465 (forgery) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
"As per the complaint, two directors and the branch head of the institution had allegedly cheated 36 students of Rs 52.21 lakh since 2021," the police official said.
The students took admission to the General Nursing Midwifery course at the institute and paid the fees. However, on completing the course, the students were awarded advanced diplomas in patient care management instead of nursing, the official said.
The students have also alleged that the institute was offering the nursing course without the necessary permission from the government, he said, adding that no arrest has been made in the case so far.
