The Kalyan Government Railway Police arrested a sculptor for stealing a woman's gold chain while she was on a local train. The police, backed by CCTV evidence, quickly arrested the perpetrator, who has a history of criminal activity and turned to theft owing to a lack of opportunities.
The incident occurred on April 24 at Vasind Railway Station, near Kalyan. The 19-year-old woman standing near the footboard was targeted as the train slowed. The accused seized the opportunity and stole her gold chain before escaping. The victim, initially ignorant of the perpetrator's identity, reported the theft to Kalyan GRP who began a probe into the case.
Using CCTV footage from the railway platform and nearby locations, the detection team identified the culprit as Dinesh Laxman Dhumal, a 30-year-old local of Titwala with a criminal record. He was swiftly arrested and presented in court.
Pandari Kande, the senior police inspector at Kalyan GRP, confirmed the arrest and said the accused has a history of criminal activities across Thane City, railways, and Thane rural areas. Investigations are underway to determine the extent of his criminal involvement.
