The Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), led by Teesta Setalvad, has filed an application with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) asking for Rahul Sharma, the then DCP of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch to be included as witness in the Gulberg Massacre of 2002.

Sixty-nine people, including former MP Ahsan Jaffri, had been killed in the massacre that took place one day after the Godhra train incident.

Trial proceedings in the case began this August.

The application points out that Sharma had submitted records of five lakh phone calls, including records of calls made by Jaffri to various politicians and policemen, from service providers AT&T and Cellforce companies.

"Strangely while SIT has made Sharma a witness in the Naroda case, they have suspiciously avoided crucial phone records and their analysis in the Gulberg massacre," a CJP statement said.
