Said Hasan Ali, moments before he surrendered to the Enforcement Directorate after the apex court cancelled his bail
Said Hasan Ali, moments before he surrendered to the Enforcement Directorate after the apex court cancelled his bailPune stud farm owner Hasan Ali surrendered before the Enforcement Directorate late last night, after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail granted by a Mumbai Sessions Court.
"I respect the Supreme Court's order," said Ali while entering the premises of the ED in south Mumbai. He also maintained that he was innocent.
The apex court remanded Khan in the custody of the ED for four days after pulling up the trial court judge who had granted him bail, dismissing the agency's plea for his remand in a money laundering case.
The apex court initially remanded Khan (53), in the ED's custody for 72 hours but extended it to four days following a plea made by Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam.
A Mumbai court had on March 11 rejected the ED's plea for custodial interrogation of Ali on the ground that the agency had not gathered sufficient evidence or made any case to justify its plea for Ali's custodial interrogation.
The ED is probing tax evasion, money laundering, and terror charges against Ali. He is also facing a Rs 70,000 crore tax demand notice from the I-T department as well as the ED probe.
The ED had arrested Ali on March 7 after being pulled up by the Supreme Court for its failure to ensure his custodial interrogation. But the trial court had let him off.
