A 19-year-old youth selected for a merchant navy job died after an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Highway, police said on Thursday. According to the report in PTi, the man died after his scooter was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the service road of the Mumbai-Pune Highway.
According to an official's statement to the news agency, the incident occurred on Wednesday when the victim, Samarth Sarika Karale, was en route Kamothe in Navi Mumbai on his scooter.
The road accident happened on the Mumbai-Pune highway near Uran Phata around 3 am, authorities confirmed to PTI.
According to the report, Karale had recently secured a position in the merchant navy and was set to commence his duties next month. However, in the interim period, the 19-year-old had taken up employment with an online grocery delivery company.

The collision occurred when a speeding vehicle struck Karale's two-wheeler on a service road. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the report added.
Police have registered a case against the unidentified driver for causing death by negligence and reckless driving at the Nerul Police Station.
In another incident, a 23-year-old graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur reportedly took his own life in his flat in Mahim, Mumbai, according to a police official on Thursday.
Rohan Kumar Jha, who held an MBA degree, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the kitchen of his flat near Sithladevi Temple on Wednesday evening, another PTI report stated.
According to the report, originally from Patna, Bihar, Jha was employed in an insurance firm with a good salary. Upon receiving the alert, the police arrived at the scene and rushed him to Sion Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
An investigation into Jha's death is currently underway, with authorities speaking to his friends and relatives. No suicide note has been found, and the body has been handed over to his family, stated the official from Mahim police station, the report added.
