A 21-year-old viciously beat up his great-grandmother and then fled with her valuables in Bhandup's Tempipada area on Wednesday evening. Cops suspect that her refusal to give him any money or even allow him into her home led him to attacking her and then fleeing with her valuables.
Revati Medikar (75), a resident of Medekar Chawl, Tanaji Wadi in Bhandup, stayed all alone in her room while her five daughters and her two sons, along with their families, stayed in the other rooms in the chawl.
At 8 pm, on Wednesday, while she was alone at home, her great- grandson, 21-year-old Kalpesh Kadam, approached her and asked her if she could help him out with some trouble he was facing. "As soon as Kadam, along with his two friends, gained access into her house, they tied her up and then stabbed her with a sharp weapon and assaulted her. They then fled with her gold chain and earrings worth Rs 70,000," said an official from the Bhandup police station.
The police said that Revati was very strict with her great-grandson Kalpesh, and would not even allow him into her house. She complained that he kept bad company. They added that she would often give her other great-grandchildren money, but never gave him any, nor did she allow him in her house.
"We have registered a case of attempt to murder against Kalpesh and his two accomplices. We have formed teams to trace them and only after their arrests, will things become clear," said the officer from Bhandup police station.u00a0
