An unidentified person attacked a 22-year-old girl last evening and threw acid on her face, outside Goregaon railway station. Aarti Thakur was attacked as she was punching her coupon, while speaking on the phone.
"This is the third time that Aarti has been attacked by an unknown person. We suspect someone and have notified the police," said the girl's mother Seema Thakur.
Doctors at Singhi Hospital on SV Road in Goregaon said that she suffered 10-15 per cent burns from the acid attack. Aarti's eyebrows, chin, chest and forearms have been partly burnt.
Her mother added that she was first attacked in November last year as she was walking in Malwani. The second attack occurred in December. "Both times she was attacked on the face, with a small knife," added Seema.
Aarti is a resident of Nallasopara and works for an IT company in Goregaon. Aarti's mother usually accompanies her to and from office. She had been engaged recently. P M Karakarta, Senior PI at Borivli railway police station said, "We heard of the attack at 7.30 pm. A man emerged from the crowd and attacked her. We will take her statement and will ask her to give us leads about suspects. We will also examine footage from the CCTV in the station."
