Around 25 statements have been recorded by the Crime Branch in the incident, where 20 gelatin sticks were found inside a Mahindra Scorpio near Mukesh Ambani's residence Antilla at Altamount Road on Thursday. A Toyota Innova car with a driver was also spotted in the CCTV footage.
The investigating team has checked footage of over 700 CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity to trace the car. Many garages are also being questioned. Details have been sought from a Nagpur company to find out how the sticks reached here.
The Crime Branch has also recorded the statement of the owner of the Scorpio, Mansukh Hiren. Hiren claims that on February 18, he left his vehicle on Vikhroli Highway due to technical glitches, after which it was stolen. He lodged an FIR with the Vikhroli police on the same day. The police are also interrogating garage owners, to check if the vehicle had been brought in for repairs.
According to police sources, the Innova was last spotted on Bhiwandi Nashik Road. It has not been detected ever since. The police are now conducting a search operation in a village around that area. Joint Commissioner of Crime Branch, Milind Bharambe, said, "We are still tracing the car and suspects. We are also trying to find how they procured the gelatin sticks."
