Cops issue guidelines for Mumbaikars to prevent terror attacks for festive season starting with Ganeshotsav

Beginning with Ganesho-tsav on August 23, the next few months of the festive season will be a testing time for the police.

And following intelligence reports of the possibility of a terror attack on the city, the Mumbai police have issued 26 guidelines for citizens to prevent untoward incidents.

Call a cop

The guidelines instruct citizens on dealing with suspicious objects at public places.

Soft spot: With Mumbai celebrating every festivalu00a0Navratri, Diwali, Christmas, etc with similar gusto, the city is vulnerable to untoward incidents.


The police have also urged citizens to inform them or dial emergency helpline numbers in case they spot vehicles parked at one spot for months.

"With the festive season beginning this month and the looming threat of terror attacks, we want citizens
to take all preventive measures," said M Bhoir, DCP, operation branch.

"These measures will help citizens prevent untoward situations that have taken place in the past," he added.

Landlords warned

Since July 20, landlords and tenants have been already under the scanner of the Mumbai police.

The cops have asked landlords to keep an eye on the movements of tenants, fearing terrorists may seek hideouts in residential areas.

It is mandatory for flat owners to submit a copy of the lease agreement and the tenants' verification details to a nearby police station.

Those who don't follow these orders can be imprisoned for up to six months or fined Rs 1,000, or both, according to the police.

u00b7u00a0Do not open the suspected box or bomb with the help of any sharp equipment.u00a0

u00b7u00a0Do not insert anything in the suspected box or bomb.

u00b7u00a0Do not try to touch the wire that can be seen in the box.

u00b7u00a0Do not keep anything near the unidentified thing.

u00b7u00a0We do not know whether the box will look same as it looks from outside. There is a high possibility that it might be a bomb.

u00b7u00a0Do not pour water on the object.

u00b7u00a0Do not use radio, wireless and mobile near the bomb.

u00b7u00a0Do not put flash or any light on the suspected object.

u00b7u00a0Do not allow anybody to go near the object unless the authorities do not check the object.

u00b7u00a0Stay at least 100 meters away from the suspected bomb.

u00b7u00a0Do not spread rumors.

u00b7u00a0If there is a bomb in a residential building, calmly empty the building without creating chaos in the area.

u00b7u00a0Put of the gas connection if possible.

u00b7u00a0You never know that there will be more bomb place in the vicinity.

u00b7u00a0Inform the police if you find something.

u00b7u00a0Bomb squad will detect the suspicious object of whether it is an explosive or not.

u00b7u00a0Do not stand near the suspected object.

u00b7u00a0Do not bring the suspected box to the police station.

u00b7u00a0Keep an eye on the movement of new tenants in your building, if found anything suspicious inform the police.

u00b7u00a0Do not touch pen, tarnsisrtor, mobile phone, Tiffin, cooker etc. it can be a bomb.

u00b7u00a0Inform the police about the abandoned vehicles that are in your area for months.

u00b7u00a0If you find abandoned articles like bags on buses and trains, infirm the authorities immediately.

u00b7u00a0Do not touch objects that seem to be alluring as there is a possibility that it might be a bomb.
