According to Hasmukh Dedhia, owner of a shop at Deepali Kunj Building where Khedekar resided, he saw Khedekar fall in front of his shop at around 8.15 am. "There was a loud thud and when I came out to check, I saw Khedekar lying on the road. Nearby shop owners said they saw him jump from the terrace, and land directly on the electric wires, which resulted in the noise," said Dedhia, adding that the police was informed immediately. Residents alleged that while a beat marshal attached to the Dombivli police station visited the spot in 10 minutes, an ambulance arrived only 20 minutes later. Khedekar, who worked at a pharmaceutical company in Navi Mumbai, lived on the fourth floor of the building and had been unemployed for six months ever since he met with a train accident, which left him with a major leg injury. His wife had started working five months ago to support their family of four, including a six-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter.
Khedekar's family members weren't available for comment. Neighbours said that they had seen the entire family at a local festival on Thursday night. Meanwhile, police are yet to confirm if Khedekar was suffering from depression for last six months.
