After winning the Assembly polls in Maharashtra, there is a tussle among NCP workers for the post of the Mumbai party president.

FAVOURITE: Nawab Malik

About eight NCP leaders are frontrunners for the coveted position.

Initially, when the party initiated discussions for candidates for the post of the city unit president, former Housing Minister Nawab Malik was the clear favourite.

However, now the names of party state unit general secretary Dinkar Tawde, spokesperson Prakash Binsale, general secretary Munaf Hakim, former NCP youth president Narendra Verma and Siddhivinayak Temple Trust chairperson Subhash Mayekar are being considered. NCP leaders are tightlipped about the developments.

"No comments," is all what some had to say. Another NCP leader said, "We have not yet finalised the names."

Malik, a four-time MLA with a considerable base in the city, has an edge because the others are not popular among the masses.

The party may choose him because he was left out of the cabinet berth and belongs to a minority.
