It's better late than never. And veteran actor Anupam Kher agrees. Since his debut film Saaransh did not have a premiere, Kher has organised one tomorrow, 25 years after the film hit the screens.

Kher said, "I am having a premiere of this classic film tomorrow at Metro Adlabs, earlier known as Metro, which was where the film released on May 25, 1984.

FLASHBACK: To mark his silver jubilee in tinsel town, veteran actor Anupam Kher will have a premiere of Saaransh, his debut film, tomorrow at Metro Adlabs

When Saaransh released, I wanted to have a grand premiere for the film, but the Bhiwandi riots broke out and we couldn't do so."

Low-key affair

In fact, even tomorrow's premier is expected to be a low-key affair. Said the actor-producer, "I'm footing the bill and this is all I can afford.

Also, Saaransh, wasn't a Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. It's more of a simplistic film based on human and social values. Hence, it wouldn't be apt to have a red carpet and band baajaa."

The cast and crew of the film have received a personal invitation from Kher for the premiere. And this includes the make-up artistes and the spot boys.

"I had gone to Nilu's (Nilu Phule) house in Pune to invite him, but as he's not keeping well, he won't be able to attend it," said Kher.

He added that he would have loved to have Subhash Ghai at the premiere. "Subhash has played an important role in my life. But as he's in Cannes, he won't be able to attend."

Among Bollywood biggies, Mahesh Bhatt, David Dhawan and Raj Barjatya are expected to grace the event.

Chuckled Kher, "David would be coming as the editor of Saaransh and look where he is today. I will look the youngest of them all.

For me, it's like taking my career graph backwards. No other film in the world has had a premiere so many years after its release."

Other celebs, who received the invitation include Tabu, Ranvir Shourey, N Chandra and Yash Chopra. Kher said, "The invitees were quite thrilled to attend the premiere.

Also, I have made a 30-minute documentary on Saaransh where people talk about the film."
