The Aarey rape case has shaken up the entire police department and Zone VIII of Mumbai police and several units of the Crime Branch are parallelly investigating the case. ACP (Sahar division) Madhukar Sankhe said, "The whole of Sahar police station is investigating the matter along with several other teams of the Mumbai police and Crime Branch units.
Three Sahar police station teams have been formed to look for clues." ACP Sankhe added that, contrary to what the police had thought earlier, the accused is not known to the girl. Police officials said they had thought that the girl knew the accused because she had referred to him as "rickshaw uncle".

To nab the accused auto driver, police are checking CCTV footage of the exit points. They have detained and questioned several auto drivers and are also trying to find out if any drivers had stopped driving their auto after Sunday, when the incident took place. A team of police officials recorded the girl's statement last afternoon and a sketch artist was called to the hospital, with the sketch expected to be prepared by late last night.
The girl has been kept in a separate room in the children's ward of KEM hospital and given police protection. "The girl has suffered multiple injuries on her private parts and other parts of the body. She is, however, out of danger. The parents are in a state of shock and have been with her throughout," said an official.
