The joint action committee of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport's (BEST) employee unions will begin a chain hunger strike from today to protest the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) refusal to accept a bailout plan for the struggling Undertaking. The committee had previously warned about going on strike from August 1.
The action committee along with BEST committee chairman Anil Kokil and other officials met mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Monday. Mahadeshwar had called the meeting.
After the meeting, he said, "We will try to find some solution before August 10. We don't want citizens to suffer because of the deadlock between two authorities."
