Ashok Mankar of BJP on Monday won the Maharashtra Legislative Council's Nagpur division by-poll. Mankar defeated Anant Gharad of Congress by 37 votes.
The BJP candidate polled 220 votes while Gharad could muster 183. Seven votes were invalid. A total of 410 votes were polled out of 414 voters after four BSP corporators of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) stayed away from the voting.
NMC has only one seat in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. The polling was conducted on January 16. The seat fell vacant following the resignation of BJP's Sagar Meghe in October last year.
