BMC issues cyclone alert, orders closure of schools, offices

Additional Municipal Commissioner for the BMC Manisha Mhaiskar today announced that the civic body had advised the closure of schools in the city by 1 pm and city offices by 2 pm because of the deteriorating weather conditions.


Additional Municipal Commissioner for the BMC Manisha Mhaiskar today announced that the civic body had advised the closure of schools in the city by 1 pm and city offices by 2 pm because of the deteriorating weather conditions.

"The city will experience winds of a maximum speed of 90 kmph from afternoon to late evening. We have decided to advise schools to close down following a meeting at Mantrayala with the Chief Secretary," said Mhaiskar.

Meanwhile evacuation spots for coastal residents have been identified and pumps at 240 low lying areas around the city have been placed to ensure that there is no water logging.
