A day after MiD Day reported the death of seven cats in Andheri (West), a team of The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) visited Geetanjali Society on Friday to investigate the mysterious
incident.

The BSPCA launched an investigation after they received a complaint from resident Aarti Gupta on July 30, regarding the sudden death of a cat, six kittens, four rats and a pigeon.

Aarti Gupta, a resident of Geetanjali society, Andheri (West), with the BSPCA investigating team on Saturday

Gupta, who found the dead bodies, claims the animals were murdered by some residents. "The residents must be involved because the cat and her kittens were healthy.

The society members have always been complaining about them, have been calling them a nuisance and have tried to hurt them in the past too," she alleged.

BSPCA Assistant Secretary, Suresh Kadam told Sunday MiD Day, "Our team had visited the society and investigated the area where the bodies of the animals were found. Due to lack of witnesses, it was accepted that the cats died accidentally.

The cats that currently stay in the building compound will remain there since it's their natural habitat and no one can remove them."u00a0

The officers of BSPCA also requested the society members to refrain from cruelty towards the animals in the area since animals too have the right to live.

"There was no evidence that could prove that the animals were poisoned so we explained to the residents to behave affectionately towards the animals and warned them about harming the cats currently there," said, an officer of BSPCA.

Gupta said, "As the bodies were decomposed before the autopsy was done, it was impossible to prove whether they were poisoned but I hope such an incident doesn't occur in the future. It is painful to see so many animals die at once."
