Bus driver tries to flee after running over elderly man

In another instance of a bus running over a citizen, a BEST bus en route from Andheri to Ghatkopar knocked over Jamadar Singh (65) outside Ghatkopar railway station on Wednesday. Jamadar fell to the side of the road as the bus ran over both his feet. He has been admitted at Rajawadi Hospital.

Jamadar, an ex-principal of Mohili Village School, Sakinaka had travelled by the same bus and had just alighted. Witnesses said that around 12.45 pm, the bus driver (badge number 90303) took a sharp turn, which led to the mishap. As the driver tried to flee, angry passers-by nabbed him and handed him over to the police. Kanhaiya Singh (badge number 90098) the conductor of the bus rushed Jamadar to the hospital. Jitendra, Jamadar's son, said, "I was at my office when the police informed me about the incident.

When I reached Rajawadi hospital, doctors said that both my father's feet had been crushed under the front tyre of the bus. He has been bleeding profusely. The conductor tried to put the blame on my father by accusing him of having gotten off the bus while it was moving. But when my father and the witnesses denied his claim, he was forced to withdraw his statement."

Dr Mariam at Rajawadi hospital said, "Jamadar was brought to the hospital around 1:15 pm, and we immediately tended to his wounds. We are plastering both his feet. An operation will be conducted after 48 hours. The feet cap of both his legs had come off and his bones were exposed. His left ankle has a fracture."

Sanjay Shelar, TC, BEST, said, "I met the victim and have taken down his statement. Further inquiries will be conducted based on the statement of the victim and the medical reports." The bus driver has been taken into police custody and a complaint has been lodged against him.
