The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) seemed to be learning from mistakes made by big brother MMRDA, which has not managed to deliver Mumbai's first metro corridor between Versova-Andheri Ghatkopar on time, with the CIDCO Managing Director reviewing the work and warning contractors against any delays.
Managing Director Tanaji Satre, along with project consultant Louis Berger and contractors J Kumar and Nagarjun, visited the metro project site, coming up between Belapur and Pendhar, on Monday. "On Monday, CIDCO MD along with the contractor and other officials visited the construction site in order to review the work. The MD has clearly instructed the contractors and officials working on the project to ensure that the work is carried out as per the plan and it does not get delayed," a CIDCO official told Sunday MiD DAY.
Learning from MMRDA's mistakes, CIDCO has divided the project work in four phases. The work in the Phase I has already started and is expected to complete by June 2013. "We are already seeing how MMRDA is struggling to complete the VAG corridorand how they have had to extend the deadlines several times. We don't want to repeat these mistakes in our project and so we have divided the project phase wise," an official said.
CIDCO has already short listed 12 contractors for the construction of metro stations on the corridor, the final tenders for which will be awarded by end of January. CIDCO is optimistic of completing the Rs 2000 crore first metro line by May 2014.
