Actor-turned-politician and member of Lok Sabha from Mumbai North Govinda, on Friday visited the Mumbai suburban District Collector's office here in connection with the explanation sought from him by the poll authorities for allegedly distributing money to some people on Holi.
"Govinda had earlier submitted a written explanation following a notice issued to him in connection with the distribution of money. Returning Officer Dr Ashwini Joshi today asked him queries pertaining to the matter," official sources said.
"We had sought an explanation from Govinda over the alleged incident earlier in return to which he had filed his reply. But we were not satisfied with it," Mumbai suburban district collector and district election officer Vishwas Patil said.
However, when Patil was asked about today's development, he said, "I amu00a0yet to receive a report from the retuning officer, which is expectedu00a0within next two to three days. If Govinda is found guilty appropriate action will be taken against him."
When asked about the quantum of punishment, Govinda may face, Patil denied commenting on it and added if found guilty,u00a0appropriate action will be taken against the actor.
On March 12, the election authorities had announced an inquiry into allegations that the actor allegedly distributed currency notes to people outside his residence here during Holi celebrations.
