A house of businessman was broke open and cash and jewellery totalling Rs 8.77 lakh were stolen by unidentified persons at Vidyavihar in suburban Ghatkopar, police said.
The police have detained a housemaid and watchman of the building for questioning and finger prints were taken from the spot, police said.
According to Ghatkopar police, businessman Kaushik Ray (32), a resident of Skyline Oasis complex, went out to meet his friend while his wife went to watch a movie when the latch of the door was broken yesterday.
"Ray and his wife stays in the house. Ray went out to meet his friend as he arrived from Dubai. Subsequently Ray and his friend went to Gorai. In the evening, Ray received a call about the house breaking, following a complaint has been registered," U R Kolekar, police inspector, told PTI.

"Policemen immediately reached the spot. We enquired neighbours if they saw or suspect anybody in this case. On suspicion, we have detained watchman and housemaid," he said.
"Cash Rs 1.55 lakh, jewellery and five watches worth Rs 7.22 lakh were stolen from the house," police said adding that a house-breaking case has been registered and further investigation is on.
