In an attempt to break the stereotypical New Year celebrations that are loaded with music, dance and alcohol, the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is introducing the concept of celebrating New Year's Eve in an eco-friendly manner.
To do so, BNHS has organised several events such as stargazing, nature trail and other environment-related activities, sans the booze and music, at Film City in Goregaon.

Education Centre (CEC) at Film City in Goregaon. Representation picDr Shubhalaxmi Vaylure from BNHS said, "This is for the first time that we have planned such a gathering on New Year's Eve. This concept was there in our minds for the past two years, but it is only this year that we decided to execute it, as we feel that there is no better way to bid goodbye to the passing year and welcome the new one."
"Before it gets too dark, there will be a dusk walk in the forest followed by games and quizzes. For children, a treasure hunt has also been planned," she said.
Keeping it down When questioned about the initiative, Dr Vaylure said, "The idea is to have a celebration in a silent manner without adding any noise that is the norm at regular New Year events."
She also informed that they have received a positive feedback. "There are people who don't go out to celebrate, but said that parties in their respective societies disturb them. Hence, they would prefer spending some peaceful time in the forest," said Dr Vaylure.
