Whether former deputy chief minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal needs to stay in Bombay hospital longer will be decided after the reports of his tests conducted on Thursday are out. Sources said he might be sent back to JJ hospital within two-three days. Bhujbal was admitted at the private hospital in Kalbadevi on Wednesday evening. There he underwent a thallium scan on Thursday.
Depending on the result, dean of JJ Group of Hospitals Dr TP Lahane and the jail authorities will decide if he should continue taking treatment at the private hospital or be sent back to the state-run one. Bhujbal is undergoing treatment at Bombay Hospital under Dr BK Goyal, who is the director of the cardiology department. Talking to mid-day, Dr Goyal said the test report would be submitted to JJ hospital.
"We can't disclose anything about the test as the report will ultimately be submitted to the court. Everything will first go to JJ hospital that will decide the future course of the treatment. Depending on the results, it will be decided whether to keep him in this hospital or not," he added. However, according to senior police officers from Arthur Road Jail, Bhujbal will be sent to JJ hospital within two to three days.
"He has been allowed to go to the private hospital as JJ didn't have the facility for conducting some of the tests. As the tests are now done, he will be sent back. Then, the doctors at JJ hospital will decide if he will be shifted to the jail or kept longer there," said an officer.
Testing times
Despite repeated attempts, Dr Lahane remained unavailable for comment. But as per the information gathered, till Friday evening, the report from Bombay Hospital hadn't been submitted to JJ hospital.
A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court last week permitted the jail authority to conduct the thallium scan at a private hospital at his own cost, as no government-run hospital has the infrastructure for it. Two of the tests - electrophysiology evaluation and the Holter test - were conducted at JJ hospital on Tuesday.
