Due to the World Cup finals at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, buildings in the vicinity were put under strict scrutiny. Some of the residents went away to the suburbs to get away from the hype while others chose to stay back and watch the game on TV instead. The police had told residents not to venture outsideu00a0 unless there was something urgent and to refrain fromu00a0 inviting people over.
But residents claim that they are fed up of the elaborate preparations. Mahendra Hemdev, a resident of D Road at Churchgate, said, "My family and I have decided to meet at my cousin's place in Andheri and watch the match there. We will return only late on Sunday."
Sanket Kamat from Marine Drive has also changed his plans. "We had planned to watch the match from our terrace but due to security reasons, the police told us not to venture on to the roof. I will now be watching the match at home with my family," he said.u00a0
A resident of Hemprabha Apartments said on the condition of anonymity, "The police advised that residents stay at home after 10 am as security would be beefed up. So, I will watch the game on TV at my home and avoid chances of a confrontation with the police."
But Anil Bhatia, convener of the A Ward Federation, said, "Although there is a bit of inconvenience, D Road looks disciplined today. There is no rampant parking or honking from cars." He added that although police personnel are questioning residents, they also advise them. "When the whole world congregates at one place, security levels will go up," he concluded.
