Issues concerning Mumbaikars take a backseat as House is adjourned after Opposition MLAs chant slogans over colleague being attacked by cops

The issue of MNS MLA Harshvardhan Jadhav being beaten up by the Aurangabad police rocked the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly yesterdayu00a0 and the session had to be adjourned for the third time since it began on March 14.

The Opposition MLAs demanded action against the police officers responsible and rushed into the well, shouting slogans against Home Minister R R Patil.

Police had beaten up Jadhav during the chief minister's visit to Aurangabad in January foru00a0 allegedly breaching the security cordon. Jadhav, who was present in the House, even accused Patil of ordering the attack on him.

He alleged that Patil had done so as he had led a morcha of women from his constituency to Patil's official bungalow demanding action against the sale of illegal liquor.

In the bargain, however, issues concerning Mumbaikars lost out.

Shiv Sena MLA Abhijit Adsul was all set to move a calling attention motion on the issue of Chinai College while Mumbadevi MLA Amin Patel wanted to raise the issue of the collapse of the building in Pydhonie when the fracas begun.

Mankhurd MLA Abu Azmi also wanted to move a calling attention motion on the issue of e-scholarship.

Adsul told MiD DAY, "I was trying to raise the issue of Chinai College as it is an important issue for the people and also for the students and teachers.

The government and ruling party politicians are shielding the college management. But, I could not raise the issue. The attack on Jadhav was also an important issue."

Amin Patel informed journalists outside the House that he would be raising the issue of the building collapse as soon as possible.
